Physiotherapy is an essential component to many surgical procedures (see below for examples) which aims to ensure your:
- Recovery from your procedure is optimised
- Successful return to work and recreation
- Return to your prior level of physical function
Precautions
Following any operation you are left with:
- General muscle weakness
- Swelling
- Scar tissue and adhesions
- Reduced range of motion
There are specific time frames for healing and regaining range of movement and strength. To ensure optimal recovery and to avoid set-backs, you need to manage any post-surgical precautions with your physiotherapist’s guidance in consultation with your surgeon.
Pre-surgery “recovery”
Start rehabilitation as soon as possible for a successful recovery which preferably means starting before surgery. Pre-surgery physiotherapy leads to:
- Faster post-operative recovery
- Increased muscle strength
- Increased joint range of motion before your surgery
- Decreased swelling following any initial injury
In hospital recovery
We can prepare you for time in hospital with:
- Simple exercises to minimise complications
- Safely moving in bed, and getting in and out of a chair
- Best use of crutches and walkers
After Surgery
We will guide your post-surgical rehabilitation by:
- Hands-on individually tailored treatments
- An exercise-based rehabilitation regime to ensure the best outcome from your procedure
- Prescribe a home exercise program
- One-on-one treatment sessions
- Maintain communication with your surgeon
